What are the firewall settings supposed to be for Windows 7 firewall to allow multiplicty to connect?
Multiplicity works fine when the firewall is turned off but absolutely will not connect if it's turned on.
32 or 64-bit? You just want to be sure to grant access to multipl.exe, multisrv32.exe (or multisrv64.exe if 64-bit) and allow tcp communication over port 30564.
During installation, Multiplicity should add the appropriate firewall rules to the Windows Firewall. You may be try right clicking the system tray icon and choose "Wizard", then go through that to have it try re-adding the firewall rules.
Mike
HiI hope you can provide assistance, otherwise I will have to ask for my money back for the product(Multiplicity Pro)Is Multiplicity Pro Windows 7 Compatible? ... two computers both running windows 7 ?I have had the free version running once, however however I try it though I cant get the Pro version to work at all. 2 X X64(windows 7) 2 X Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 (Although other OS have been tried)I have tried a number off setups involving many means off connecting the machines hubs/router/switches.I only got it working by hooking both machines up to the BT 2700HGV(router) and opening one port in the firewall(router), this is nothow I would like to run the setup.I have purchased today a Belkin 5-Port 10/100 Network switch, I have connected booth machines to the switchand everything else works even through the firewall's(KIS) (I can see booth machines), however even with KIS unloaded on both machines, and windows firewall turned off Multiplicity Pro will not connect across. Yes the router at this stage was turned off/Disconnected.
I have read in the sort off questions and answers bit that Multiplicity can take upto a min or two to load, is their anyway to verifythat it is loaded and running, certainly their is Icons in both system trays. Can you provide step by step analysis? I think Iamcorrect in saying that it should just work but it does not, I thought it was possible the network hub was not working properly but even the new network switch doesn't work. I wish it to run through the switch as I run a webserver for development on the second machine, and dontparticularly want that running through the router, I wish to be able just to unplug the network cable for the router(manual disconnecting the Internet) and work on development over the network on the webserver.
I read an article about having to grant special router permissions for some programs to gain access to the internet... usually games, but there are others that apparently require it
I don't know if this is your problem, but this info on 'port forwarding' may be helpful.
Thanks for the input mate I wont be able to test this until latter in the afternoon.I don't think that port forwarding is the problem, however I am willing to listen to anything at this time.If both machines connect through the same switch, then it should be the same as listen and receive, I think.About the only thing I haven't tried is a cross-over but the instructions that came with the switch said thatthis was not required. May I point out that these are all brand new patch cables as well, yes I started with the cheep things first. My thoughts was wondering if its Win 7 and the Home-group needs a password, then how do you set that in Multiplicity?I think it should just bypass this and go straight through, but I am not 100% sure.
---------------------------------
Just to add I have tried your program and unfortunately its not windows 7 compatible even when run under windows xp compatibility mode.
Ho Hum STARDOCK !!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, this will be fine. In fact, that's what I have in front of me now!
Make sure that not only are exceptions made in the firewall, but in other aspects of Kaspersky as well. Multiplicity could be getting flagged as something bad, as it's not uncommon for heuristic engines to see an app capturing keystrokes/mouse movements and think "key logger".
then it's running. Verify that the Multiplicity service is running on any secondaries as well in the services management console (services.msc)
You shouldn't need any port forwarding, as Multiplicity is connecting machines on the same LAN
Homegroup settings shouldn't affect Multiplicity
From the sound of your setup there may be some interesting network settings going on here that may not be accounted for in Multiplicity, I would suggest e-mailing support@stardock.com so we can get some more details on the network setup and your Multiplicity settings. Also, my first question is probably going to be if both these machines have IPs on the same subnet, or if you're trying to connect across subnets.
Good to see you Mike.
I meet the same problem and can't not re-use this soft. Multiplicity always disconnect... , sometime when i click troubleshooting and getback the notice: Multiplicity was able to connect to this machine without any problems. if you having problems please try running this troubleshooter on the secondary machine. when I replace the main machine, still disconnect. I try to backup my window by Ghost, this way notice that,
Can't you show me the detail way to re-install it? My first computer have Kaspersky and run on window xp, the second computer install window 7.
This software very useful.
I am running 2 windows 7 computers with all the latest updates. Networking and internet work fine on both machines but i cannot get the latest multiplicity to run.
Computers are networked fine and in same homegroup.
What else do i need to check?
Go to Start->start search; "windows firewall" and right click the "windows firewall with advanced security" then choose "run as administrator." Under the "Inbound rules," open the "Multiplicity" rules, go to the advanced tab, and enable the radio button, "all profiles."
Beyond that, do you have another firewall that might be interfering? Are these 32-bit or 64-bit machines?
I'm also having trouble with multiplicity pro and windows 7. I did the firewall stuff mentioned in the last post. Here is what the secondary computers say when you look at the troubleshooting option:
Is the Multiplicity service installed correctly and running:
Try downloading this (via Internet Explorer): link
Run that as administrator and see if that maybe helps your problem.
That first warning is saying that the Multiplicity paths are not set correctly. You'll probably need to uninstall and reinstall Multiplicity.
This gives me this:
- 32-bit OS Detected ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry key or value. Registry information for Multiplicity incomplete! Press any key to continue . . .
I've done that more than once.
That sounds worse than the first one. Try uninstalling and then running this:
http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/clear_mp_settings.reg
and then try reinstalling again.
I'm having a similiar problem but I got the home group to work. My 2ndary compary just stopped working. And now today it just freezes for 10 secs and stops. Troubleshooting said "it was the mulitplicity winlong dll is not running." Both are Win 7 Pro x64 machines are on same physical switch.
What I find most interesting in your PDF is that I should be running a multipl x64 process neither machine has an x64 despite me downloading the x64 version. Did I download the wrong one? Or do I need to use the above bats to clean out my settings and start fresh.
Also had this whole thing running for about 3 weeks. Copy/Paste stopped working after the first week. And Now all these problems is there some large problem I am missing?
